January 2023 reads; WILL, Bamboozled by Jesus, Bonus book | wholesome, inspiring & rewarding

Updated: Sep 11, 2023

“Reading is a basic tool in the living of a good life.”

-Mortimer J. Adler

It's the second month of the year and I think I should be more intentional with documenting my thoughts and opinions regarding the books that I read. One of my goals for the year is to read two or more books per month. In January I managed to complete a total of three books and I am well pleased. In this article I will provide a brief summary of my thoughts, the star rating for each book and why I decided to read all 3 books. The books that will be discussed include;

  • WILL - Will Smith & Mark Manson

  • Bamboozled by Jesus - Yvonne Orgi

  • 100 Things successful people do - Nigel Cumberland

1. WILL - Will Smith & Mark Manson

A five star rating from me. Love it!

In December 2022 I saw quite a number of posts about the book on Instagram and I thought it would be a good read, along with a few other fiction books. Another reason I picked it up was because I wanted to read something that had a bit of depth but a little light hearted as well. As soon as I started reading the book I couldn't put it down it was a page turner. I thoroughly enjoyed how Will let us into his world, his thoughts and the values that have shaped him, it made it easier to understand some of the choices he had made.

The book itself is quite bulky and I read it while holiday festivities were underway so I committed to reading at least five pages each day and I carried it over to January and completed it. I really enjoyed this book and I have every intention of writing a blog post about my favourite quotes, lessons and who I would recommend this book to.

2. Bamboozled by Jesus - Yvonne Orji

Another five star rating from me. It's wholesome. It feels like talking to a friend about everyday issues and really living life with Jesus.

This book gives an honest account of Yvonne Orgi's life. It lets us into her Journey with Jesus and how she was tricked into getting the life of her dreams. This book was a great read for me to kick-start the year. It is faith-filled, funny and realistic. Yvonne speaks a lot about having hope and also lets us in on her family dynamics, finances, career path and friendship. There are many life lessons and nuggets in this book.

This is the sort of book I will continue to pull out ever so often. In her own words "this definitely not a self-help book. It's a GET YOURS book!". Have a look out for my notes on this book!

3. 100 Things Successful People Do - Nigel Cumberland

I liked this book and I would give it a four star rating.

I enjoyed that this book was an easy read and that it covered a variety of topics including health, character, finances, relationships, career, learning and retirement. It's all encompassing and I purchased the book because of the writing style and the fact that you can always have a glance on the different topics.

I've written two fantastic articles to summarize my thoughts and the lessons I learned from the book, click on the links below.
